What do I need to bring with me?

To hire a bike from Wildfinder Pencarrow, you will need to bring a form of ID and a form of payment.

Are there guided options available ?

This offering is self-guided. Youll receive a map and a safety briefing, then head out at your own pace. Wildfinder does offer guided and group day trips from other locations, but for Pencarrow, this service is a self-guided experience.

Is the route suitable for beginners or casual riders?

Absolutely. The trail along Pencarrow is scenic with coastal views and manageable terrain. Its designed to be accessible to a wide range of abilities.

What should I wear?

We recommend you wear closed shoes, shorts or tight-fitting pants, a t-shirt, and sunscreen.

How do I get to the top lighthouse?

There is a steep path on the left before you get to Pencarrow Head, though this is only advisable for walkers. We recommend taking the much more accessible path just after Pencarrow Head, which goes around Lake Kohangapiripiri before heading up the back of the hill to the top lighthouse. Be warned, though, there are steep areas near the top, so you may have to get off and push.

Is the trail flat?

The main coast trail is completely flat all the way from Wildfinder Pencarrow to the SS Paiaka Wreck (past that is private land). Should you wish to go up to the top of Pencarrow Lighthouse or round the lakes, you will need to contend with a few hills.
