Full Description

Arrive at our Wānaka base at 8:00 am to meet your guide, review gear, and go over the plan for the day. Pickup from your Wānaka accommodation can also be arranged.
From here, enjoy a scenic 1-hour drive through the stunning Haast Pass to the Blue Pools trailhead. Your guide will lead you on a beautiful forest walk, crossing swing bridges and pausing to admire the crystal-clear waters below. 
The guide will then take you beyond the public viewing point of the Blue Pools and continue our hike down the beautiful Makarora River through ancient forest into a peaceful valley. Along the way, learn about the area’s unique ecology and history....

What is included in the price?

Your guide, picnic lunch and snacks, transportation, terrain fees and hiking poles.

Where do we meet for this trip?

Our offices are located at 58 McDougall St, Wānaka. We are a 10–15 minute walk from the center of town. We meet at 8:00 AM on the day your trip starts. Pick-up from your accommodation can be arranged if youre staying in Wānaka or Lake Hāwea.

Where do we go & what do we get to see?

The full-day adventure begins with a scenic drive towards Makarora Township. You’ll have the opportunity to stop along the way at some beautiful lookouts, perfect for photo opportunities. After a 45-minute drive, youll arrive at the parking lot for the Blue Pools hike. You’ll spend a few hours walking the trails among the lush New Zealand bush, spotting wildlife such as fantails and bellbirds (korimako). You’ll get to see the glacial blue waters of the Blue Pools and enjoy 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains. Some groups may choose to continue on to see Fantail Falls, Thunder Creek Falls, or even stop off and complete the Haast Pass Lookout Track.

What happens if it rains or the bad weather on that day ?

Poor weather means cancellation or rescheduling, with a full refund offered if conditions are unsafe.
 

What kind of dress should I wear for the tour?

You are recommended to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes such as sneakers.

Is the tour beginner friendly?

Yes, beginners are welcome to join this tour.
