Frequently Asked Questions

What types of whales can we expect to see?

The most commonly sighted whale is the Sperm Whale, which is present year-round due to the deep underwater Kaikōura Canyon. Additionally, visitors may encounter Humpback Whales, Pilot Whales, and Blue Whales, especially during migration seasons. Other marine life such as Dusky Dolphins, Fur Seals, and Albatrosses are also frequently observed during the tours.

Are there weight restrictions for passengers?

Yes, passengers have a weight limit of 125 kg (approx. 275 lb) per seat.

What should I wear or bring for the flight?

Dress comfortably in warm, layered clothing, as temperatures at altitude can be cooler. Flat shoes are recommended, and bring a camera, and possibly a light jacket for comfort during the flight.

What happens if it rains or the bad weather on that day ?

Poor weather means cancellation or rescheduling, with a full refund offered if conditions are unsafe.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the tour is wheelchair accessible.

What is the best time of day to see the whales?

The sperm whales in Kaikoura are found year-round, feeding on the rich waters flowing through the underwater Kaikoura Canyon. They typically follow a pattern throughout the day of diving down to feed, then returning to the surface to breathe. There is no specific time of day that is better or worse to see the whales.

Can I bring my children on the flight?

We welcome all ages on the flight. Each child will be fitted with a headset and life jackets if necessary. Infants aged 0 to 3 years generally fly free of charge based on weight, provided they are seated on a parent or caregiver’s lap. We also have toys and colouring in to keep little ones occupied at the terminal. Children under the age of 12 must fly with an adult.

What is your cancellation policy?

We offer a full refund if cancelled up to 48 hours before the activity starts.

When and where should passengers check in for their flight?
