Take a short 15 minute boat ride across Lake Te Anau to Brod Bay and the Kepler Track, where a number of walking tracks are available to you. Enjoy a leisurely 2.5 hour walk from Brod Bay back to Te Anau by the lakefront, or follow the Kepler Track for a steady 5-6 hour hike to the Luxmore Hut.

For the adventurous hikers, you have the option to hike to the summit of Mt Luxmore for the stunning scenic views, allowing 7-8 hours return, with all options including return transport from Brod Bay back across Lake Te Anau to the Te Anau township.

Yes. The walk is highly beginner-friendly, especially the 10 km Round the Bay route between Brod Bay and Te Anau, which is flat, well-maintained, and follows the lakeshore through native bush. Its great for most fitness levels, including families and casual walkers.

Can I choose how far I want to walk before returning?

Absolutely. There are several flexible options:
10 km Round the Bay (approx. 2.5 hours one-way)
Lunch at Luxmore Hut (approx. 16.5 km, 5–6 hours return)
Luxmore Summit Challenge (approx. 26 km, 7–8 hours return)

What happens if I miss the return boat from Brod Bay?

Fiordland Outdoors offers frequent return boat services at 2:45 PM and 4:30 PM. If you miss your intended boat, you can wait and catch the next available one, just light coordinate with the water taxi crew on-site.

Can I bring a backpack or hiking poles on the boat?

Yes, bringing a backpack or hiking poles is absolutely fine.

Is parking available near the boat departure point?

Yes, there’s convenient parking near the Te Anau lakefront departure jetty, including access to a DOC long-term car park just a short walk away.
