Enjoy a 30 minute cruise across lake Wanaka to reach the island of Mou Waho. Step off the boat onto the predator free island & nature reserve. Try and spot the Buff Weka, extinct on mainland NZ since 1920. Enjoy a guided walk to the top of the island where you will discover Arethusa's pool. The lake on an island, on a lake, on an island!

Enjoy morning or afternoon tea with panoramic views of lake Wanaka & the southern Alps. On our return walk to the boat, your guide will help you find the perfect spot to plant your very own native tree! This is a great way to give back to the unique ecosystem on the island.

  • Wanaka Marina, Lakeside Road, Wānaka 9305, New Zealand
    Eco Adventures Wanaka Boat leaves from the Jetty next to the Marina on Lakeside Road. It is next to the Wanaka Yacht Club and Public boat ramps and is the first turn off on the Left on Lakeside Road coming from the Roundabout in town.
    Please meet your Eco Adventure Guide at the Wanaka Marina, 10 minutes before your departure time. There is 4 hours of free parking at the Wanaka Marina, but this is limited. Please consider a short walk from town, or if parking is full, turn left out of the marina, keep left on Lakeside Road where there is free roadside parking (after the broken yellow line, park next to the grass).

Group size: 10 per guide
The Mou Waho track has some rocky sections that will require you to use balance and place your feet securely.
Follow your guide's instructions. Trekking poles can be a huge help. We provide these free of charge.
Wear good walking shoes or boots, bring a water bottle, a day backpack, and a sunhat or rain jacket, depending on the weather.

Accessibility: Walking is not suitable for Wheelchairs or strollers.

Good weather is required for this experience. If we need to cancel due to poor weather, you'll be offered a different date or a full refund.

There is a minimum number of travellers for this experience. If the minimum isn't met and we need to cancel, we will offer a different date/experience or a full refund.

All payments must be made prior to the trip commencing or via your booking agent.

All transactions are conducted in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). Due to exchange rate fluctuations, at times there may be some variance in the amounts refunded compared to the amount initially charged.
Throne Brown & Cochrane Ltd (Eco Adventures Wanaka + Stargazing Wanaka) does not accept any liability for these variances or any subsequent credit card/bank charges relating to these transfers to customer's accounts.

We reserve the right to amend timetables, cancel departures, substitute plant and equipment, amend specials or offers and a-l-t-e-r ticket prices at any time.

All agreements and contracts shall be subject solely to New Zealand law and the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts. In the event of a cancellation or amendment to your booking, the notification period is in NZ time (NZST).

We strongly recommend travel insurance for all our adventures and be aware we are in remote areas at times so any medical restrictions you may have must be disclosed prior to departure.

By making a booking and consenting to our terms & conditions, you are agreeing to receive emails from us. These emails are only for internal improvement purposes and will never be passed to third parties for any mailing lists.

All vehicles, buses and boats are Smoke/Vape Free.

This Cancellation Policy applies to all bookings:

If travel on the lake will be unsafe or uncomfortable for guests due to bad weather, we may cancel the trip or look to reschedule your booking.
We will refund the whole booking amount in the event we have to cancel your booking and are unable to reschedule at a time that works for you.
Minimum numbers for this trip are 2 guests. If we do not have 2 or more guests booked for your tour, we will do our best to re-schedule you to a day & time that works for you. If we are unable to do so, you will be refunded in full.
For bookings cancelled more than 48 hours prior to the departure time, there will be no charge, but some booking fees and charges may not be able to be refunded. In these cases, a partial refund will be given less the booking fees or charges.
For bookings cancelled within 24 hours prior to departure time, or in the case of a ‘no show’, you will be charged the full cost of the trip.

The Mou Waho track is graded as easy, with a few steeper sections that can be slippery when wet. Please inform us of any mobility concerns or conditions that would make walking uphill difficult, and we can adapt a program to meet your needs.

The walk is designed for a wide range of fitness levels.
 

Are restrooms available on the boat or the island?

No, there are no restrooms on the vessels or in the vehicles. On Mou Waho Island, there is a basic composting toilet near the track.
 

Can I bring a camera or drone to capture the scenery?

Yes, bringing a camera or phone for photos is encouraged.
 

What is the maximum group size per guide?

Each guide can accommodate a maximum of 10 participants.
 

How early should we arrive before our scheduled booking?

Please check in 10 minutes prior to the departure time.
 

What is your cancellation policy?

We offer a full refund if cancelled up to 48 hours before the activity starts.
 

What happens if it rains or the bad weather on that day ?
