Experience the Healing Waters of Ngawha Springs

The revitalizing mineral waters of Ngawha Springs are a haven of natural healing nestled in Te Tai Tokerau, Northland. According to Māori tradition, these geothermal pools are created by Ruaumoko, the unborn child of Papatuanuku, whose movements cause the thermal activity that brings forth the mineral-rich waters from deep within the Earth. For centuries, the people of Ngapuhi and visitors alike have sought these sacred waters to alleviate pain, restore wairua (spirit), and address common ailments.

Meeting Point

Ngawha Springs is located south of Kaikohe on State Highway 12.

Turn onto Ngawha Springs road and follow all the way to the end where you will see our sign for the pools.

Find a carpark then make your way to the reception where our team will check you in.

 

Additional Information

We have a Whare Tii (Teahouse) onsite which offers a range of herbal and medicinal tea to replenish and rehydrate your body. We also stock cold replenishing drinks and a selection of packaged cakes and muffins to reenergize your body. Open from 9am-3pm Wednesday to Sunday
Towels are for hire and also a range of natural remedies from our retail space and locally woven products.

Are the hot pools suitable for children and elderly visitors?

The range of temperatures from moderate to very hot means there’s likely a pool suitable for most comfort levels, but extra caution is advised:
Elderly visitors and those with medical conditions should be careful in the hotter pools.

What should I bring with me when visiting the hot pools?

Bring swimwear, a towel, a water bottle, water shoes, and so on.

Are the pools open year-round or seasonally?

The pools are open Wednesdays through Sundays, from 7 AM to 9 PM.

Are food and drinks available or allowed at the springs?

No food is permitted in or near the pool areas or in the pool shelters. Additionally, no alcohol, smoking, vaping, or glass containers are allowed on the premises.
