Enjoy a stunning 50 min boat journey from Te Anau Downs across Lake Te Anau before stepping ashore at Glade Wharf, ready to explore the Milford Track.

Once you've arrived at the Glade Wharf, the track weaves through thick native beech forest and alongside the gin-clear Clinton River. It won't be long until you see the famously photographed swing bridge. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for snippets of the Fiordland mountains peeking through and listen for the birds; you might spot a few along the way. Lunch at Clinton Hut, the first hut on the DOC multi-night walk then back to meet the boat at 430pm, arriving back at Te Anau Downs 530pm.

Expect well-maintained, relatively flat tracks through native rainforest. The route spans approximately 11 km round-trip, leading to Giant Gate Falls, a highlight waterfall, with beautiful forest scenery and birdlife along the way.

No, this section of the Milford Track is gentle and straightforward with no technical or steep portions. Its designed as a pleasant half-day walk, ideal for a taste of Milford without an overnight commitment.

What time does the tour end?

The walk typically takes 3–4 hours return, including the boat transfers. Boats from Deepwater Basin (Milford Sound) to Sandfly Point depart as early as 8:30 AM, and return trips run from 12:00 PM to approximately 4:30 PM.

What happens if I miss the return boat?

Fiordland Outdoors offers flexible return boat arrangements. Return boats run frequently until about 4:30 PM, and times can be adjusted on the day in consultation with the skipper. In case you miss a boat, there’s usually availability on the next one back; just speak with your guide or skipper to sort it out.
